Axle’s mom Candice wrote to us recently and shared this story:
“Axle was a dog that wandered into my yard and never wanted to leave. He quickly became a beloved part of the family, but with pets comes responsibility.
Because I am a renter who does not have a proper fence, I never considered owning a dog…but what I didn’t realize was that we were about to be adopted by Axle, whether or not we had a fence!
One morning I was in a rush to get to work. I had no idea that Axle ran out of the house when I left. He was hit by a car and had a broken leg that was dangling!
In a state of panic I thought it was all over with. I was crushed, thinking we were going to lose him for sure. All I could think about was how unfair it was that he should lose his life over a broken bone, because I figured I was too poor to take care of it.
I couldn’t accept that. I was willing to relinquish him to a shelter for care in the off chance it could save his life. But I couldn’t accept that either.
Finally, a friend convinced me to take him to the vet just to see what the options might be. She thought that after hearing them, I would feel better about making a decision.
I took him to my local vet clinic, and unfortunately they told me Axle needed to have his leg amputated. When I heard how much it would cost, it about made me fall over — not because of the actual price, but because I knew I didn’t have that amount of money upfront, and I also didn’t have a way to obtain it in time to help him.
Then the vet clinic introduced me to VetBilling®. I was overjoyed!! VetBilling® saved my Axle’s life as much as the clinic did!!
I now have a sense of calm when I know I need help. I can even consider more frequent visits for wellness now that I know there are payment options.
Thank you VetBilling® for giving me peace of mind, and giving me the chance to continue being a responsible pet owner!!”
